Taking the “misery” out of Misery Ridge with Wildland Guiding Company

Smith Rock State Park is one of the 7 Wonders of Oregon and for good reason — the jaw-dropping beauty and landscape are like none other in the world, and its sheer faces are sought-after by climbers from around the world.

This year the fest is teaming up with guides Khyra and Cody from Wildland Guiding to bring you a special add-on event, Yoga + Hike + Brew, an unforgettable, curated experience of Smith’s most famous hike, Misery Ridge.

Misery Ridge is legendary — and aptly named given its steep ascent with significant altitude gain in a relatively short period of time.

But Khyra & Cody know how to make this hike as misery-free as possible!

Here’s what you’ll experience:

Yoga

  • Introductions, welcoming circle, dropping in

  • 30 min yoga session at the beginning of the tour with views of Smith Rock

  • All-levels flow class, accessible for all

  • "Yoga for hikers," stretching and strengthening the muscles used while hiking

  • Relaxing and centering, using the senses to ground with outdoor yoga

Hike

  • About 3.5 miles, with approximately 1000 feet of elevation gain

  • Regular stops along the hike to learn about the geological/natural, indigenous, settler and contemporary history of Bend and Central Oregon (with an emphasis on the rock climbing history at Smith Rock!)

  • Silent walking meditation for a portion of the hike

Brew

  • Tour ends with a cold and refreshing local craft brew

  • Grounding and centering during our yoga session and hike to cultivate mindfulness while beer tasting

  • Closing circle, sharing, questions

  • Local recommendations and insider tips

Register for this workshop and more when the official schedule goes live on February 28th.

The usual fee for this fully guided tour, all-inclusive, is $110. Festival attendees can join the fun for a nominal $29 add-on ticket that defrays the cost of permits, beverages, and certified guides.
